The GreenPrint (back)

The GreenPrint identifies pilot projects and opportunities in our neighborhood to reduce our ecological footprint and build connections among neighbors. Our projects and opportunities are predicated upon the following goals and objectives:

  • Strengthen neighborhood identity and promote projects and activities that connect neighbors
  • Improve water stewardship and reduce urban flooding by creating bioswale drainage systems and restoring creeks, seeps and wetlands
  • Expand and improve public and private open space and urban wildlife habitat
  • Encourage neighborhood walking by developing public walking routes and pedestrian amenities

Thank you, neighbors

Thank you for coming to our Green Footprints Community Meeting on Thursday, October 23. After a year of hard work developing some long term plans to enhance our neighborhood, it was rewarding to see so much enthusiasm and support for the ideas presented at the meeting.

During the last year, 250 neighbors volunteered more than 2000 hours to map the vegetation, habitat and water features of our neighborhood. We worked with Seattle Urban Nature, The Seattle Audubon Society, landscape architect Peggy Gaynor and environmental artist Buster Simpson to create a long-term vision and goals to reduce our carbon footprint. Thanks go to the Seattle Dept. of Neighborhoods, who sponsored us with a Neighborhood Matching Grant, and to the Seattle Dept. of Parks and Recreation, the Seattle Dept. of Transportation (SDOT), Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), and the Green Seattle Partnership for their support.

Looking ahead, we plan to continue our effort on the pilot projects: East Harrison Wetland, Alder Creek Natural Area, and the alley recovery effort on 24th Avenue East - Honey Bee Haven! Our Steering Committee will continue to schedule seasonal events, including education seminars, and pursue funding for larger projects. You can stay in touch with us by checking this website, or you can join our greenfootprints Yahoo group. If you want to get involved with one of our project efforts, please let us know.

Thanks again for your participation,

Green Footprints Action Works Steering Committee
